Whats Happening At Sheehan
Last week the Massachusetts Audubon Society spoke to the 3rd grade about how the differences among our animal friends help species survive and thrive within a population. Students began with a brief discussion on the role of variation in a population, then put their learning into action with a hands-on bird beak game and a unique encounter with a live animal ambassador. Using evidence from their experience, students construct an explanation of how variation in characteristics is advantageous to a population and build arguments that animals have external structures to support their survival.
Next week, the Kindergarten will have a visit from the Discovery Museum to explore concepts of force and motion! Kids will interact with a variety of toys and engineer their own toys that move in lots of different ways. Students play with how to make objects move and control that movement, and experiment with the effects of outside forces such as gravity and friction acting on that movement.
Thank you to Beth O'Malley (parent of a 3rd grader) for organizing all of these PTA funded enrichment opportunities for our students.
PTA MEETING RECAP
Thank you to everyone who joined our PTA meeting last night both in person and virtually.
For those who could not attend please see the attached notes from our meeting. But for those who want the main point of the meeting... we need volunteers to make things successful at our school. Please see the below information regarding volunteer opportunities and ways to get involved in making the Sheehan PTA strong for years to come.
“Do more than belong: participate. Do more than care: help.” — William Arthur Ward
The Sheehan PTA is powered by amazing volunteers—and there’s a place for everyone to help, no matter your schedule or comfort level. Volunteering is a wonderful way to support our students and teachers, meet other families, and feel even more connected to the Sheehan community.
We know life is busy, so we offer many levels of engagement:
Low-lift helpers: Sign up for a single shift, donate items, help at an event, or lend a hand from home.
Occasional volunteers: Assist with a few activities throughout the year like Teacher Appreciation, Family Events, or Fundraisers.
Committee members: Help plan and organize events with a small team.
Leadership roles: Chair a committee or take on a larger role shaping PTA programs and initiatives.
Whether you can give an hour, a day, or a season, every contribution makes a difference—and every volunteer is appreciated. Jump in where it works for you and help make Sheehan an even stronger, more connected community!
